To cut a saga down to an anecdote, by the time we worked it out, the rat had grown big and strong on cat food. The rat ate the wiring loom inside the dishwasher before we caught it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11940981942321987173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624079870671201428.post-74294483875878378542017-10-01T08:04:34.106-07:002017-10-01T08:04:34.106-07:00I think my lot need to start reading your blog.......I think my lot need to start reading your blog....Kerry Buchananhttp://www.kerrybuchanan.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624079870671201428.post-53585091336425097342017-10-01T08:02:45.533-07:002017-10-01T08:02:45.533-07:00Our highlights (courtesy of Bitsy, our first ever ...Our highlights (courtesy of Bitsy, our first ever cat to die naturally of old age) :
Live jackdaw, through two catflaps
Woodpecker - survived and passed to local bird charity to recover
Squirrel - devil of a thing to catch, even worse trying to get it out of the house when Bitsy got bored.
Weasel - ditto
We always reckoned that Bitsy had an Eye-Spy book of fun prey and was working through.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11940981942321987173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624079870671201428.post-27217526555596916562017-10-01T07:49:47.489-07:002017-10-01T07:49:47.489-07:00Mo is our only real mouser and ratter. We had one summer where the wild rabbits were so tame I could walk right up to a couple of them. I think they are more wary now. Piper is really a mouser, but Ginge (half his size) has been known to catch and eat rabbits almost as big as she is.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11940981942321987173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624079870671201428.post-36589503682564389082017-10-01T06:50:14.698-07:002017-10-01T06:50:14.698-07:00Loved reading this, Mark. Our closest equivalent is the occasional large rat Mo brings in, which makes a substantial tripping hazard for the barefoot owner on the way to the loo in the middle of the night. Mo makes just the same "Look what I've caught!" chirples, too.Kerry Buchananhttp://www.kerrybuchanan.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624079870671201428.post-19795118020202192922017-09-19T02:43:39.199-07:002017-09-19T02:43:39.199-07:00And now, a small update...

Really, really wrong.
We had the window open this morning - Squeak doesn't go out much, but if the window is open on a nice day, she takes a stroll outside. Neither of us checked to see if Thug was around.
Squeak was wedged between us on the sofa (why does she do that?) and she started growling. I looked down, saw a cat, and thought Ginge had made a rare appearance in the lounge, but no, Thug had come in through the window, ready for a proper showdown with no glass in the way. He took another few steps and Squeak went from growling to howling... Thug did a quick U-turn and a fast nonchalant stroll away.
I seriously did not expect that.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11940981942321987173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624079870671201428.post-1919370225957885332017-08-20T01:03:38.989-07:002017-08-20T01:03:38.989-07:00So, Black Lacey decided not to drop off the perch,...So, Black Lacey decided not to drop off the perch, but just dozed off forever in a nest-box last night.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11940981942321987173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624079870671201428.post-79844335959568130862017-04-12T02:25:09.887-07:002017-04-12T02:25:09.887-07:00There are three problems with this:

We have kept an eye on him, but still missed an abscess on his shoulder. Whilst I was away last week, it was suddenly obvious that he had a problem and Caroline had to catch and cage him on her own for a trip to the vet. Most of the time you would mistake Piper for a long-term domesticated moggy, but the moment things get stressful he reverts to spooky feral tom.

Other than that...life is going ok.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11940981942321987173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624079870671201428.post-52129822181154226982016-05-31T05:48:59.135-07:002016-05-31T05:48:59.135-07:00Helen and I have a cat to look after in our house ...Helen and I have a cat to look after in our house for a while (months) as her owner is abroad.
